Total cards
Exactly 40 cards. No more, no less.
A 40-card constructed format
Build With Less, Play With More.
Fast games. Hard choices. Every nonland card comes as a pair, and every pair can fuel Resonance.
The format
Duality is a community-built Magic format designed for quicker matches, tighter deck construction, and meaningful choices from the opening hand onward. It keeps the core rules of Magic while adding one signature mechanic that makes paired cards matter.
Basic rules
Exactly 40 cards. No more, no less.
15 unique nonland cards, with exactly two copies of each.
Exactly 10 lands. Nonbasic lands are limited to two copies of the same card.
Players begin at 20 life and use the London Mulligan.
All normal Magic cards are legal. Un-cards are the only cards not allowed.
No ban list. Power is welcome until testing proves a card harms the format.
Mana rocks, mana dorks, rituals, Treasures, and other nonland mana sources count as nonland cards. Only cards with the Land type count toward the ten-land requirement.
Signature mechanic
Once each turn, as you cast a spell, you may exile another card with the same name from your hand. If you do, you may spend mana as though it were mana of any color to cast that spell.
Resonance does not reduce the spell's cost. It lets you trade the second copy for perfect color fixing, helping ten-land decks keep moving while forcing a real decision: save the twin, or burn it now.
Help shape the format
Bring a legal 40-card deck, play fast matches, and tell us what worked, what broke, and what felt completely unfair in the best or worst way.
Run a casual playtest night, offer boosters or promo cards, and collect player feedback.
